Ukraine and Romania Sign Memorandum to Enhance Transport Links and Border Infrastructure

What changed

Ukraine and Romania have formalised their commitment to enhancing cross-border transport infrastructure and logistical capabilities by signing a Memorandum of Understanding. This instrument, signed on 21 September 2026, outlines joint efforts to modernise border crossing points, improve rail connections, streamline customs procedures, and expand Ukrainian cargo transshipment through Romanian ports. The agreement aims to support the systematic development of the entire transport corridor between the two nations, which is crucial for Ukrainian logistics during the ongoing conflict.

Ukraine Proposes Stronger Protections and Residence Pathways for Foreign Nationals in Military Service

What changed

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved a draft law. This law aims to improve the legal standing and ways to live in Ukraine for foreign nationals and stateless people defending the country. This proposed law would make the legal temporary stay after military service longer. It would also count military service towards the requirements for an immigration permit. It would also accept combatant certificates to get a temporary residence permit. The law also suggests a special immigration quota for combatants. It also includes a travel document for people who have trouble renewing their passports. The Ministry for Veterans Affairs of Ukraine created this plan. The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine (Ukrainian parliament) will now consider it.
