Manitoba Workforce Transition Bridge Temporary Public Policy Extends Nomination Deadline for Certain Workers
Current rules
The Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) may extend the nomination deadline to 31 December 2027 for eligible individuals who received Manitoba Support Letters in 2024 or 2025 under the expired Temporary Public Policies (TPP), and who meet other MPNP eligibility criteria. Manitoba may issue up to 2,700 support letters.
Overview
Canada's Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, the Honourable Diab, signed the Manitoba Workforce Transition Bridge Temporary Public Policy on 6 July 2026. This policy extends the deadline for certain individuals to receive a provincial nomination under the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) from 31 December 2026 to 31 December 2027. It specifically applies to those who previously received Manitoba Support Letters in 2024 or 2025 under expired temporary public policies and meet updated eligibility criteria, allowing them to request new support letters for open work permits.

What changed in the latest version
Before
People who got Manitoba Support Letters under the 2024 or 2025 Temporary Public Policies (TPPs) had a nomination deadline of 31 December 2026.
After
The Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) may extend the nomination deadline to 31 December 2027. This applies to eligible people who got Manitoba Support Letters in 2024 or 2025 under the old Temporary Public Policies (TPPs). They must also meet other MPNP eligibility rules. Manitoba may issue up to 2,700 support letters.
Extending the nomination deadline gives eligible people an important extra year. They can use this time to finish their provincial nomination application. Without this change, these people would have had less time. This could have stopped them from getting permanent residency. The policy also offers a way to get a new Manitoba-specific open work permit. This makes sure people can keep working legally in the province. Employers will benefit by keeping experienced staff. These staff might otherwise have had their work permits expire and had to leave Manitoba.
Explained simply
Imagine you had a special pass to stay and work in Manitoba that was going to run out at the end of next year, and you needed to get a more permanent pass before then. Good news! The government has given you an extra year to sort it out. If you got one of those special passes in 2024 or 2025 and you're still working full-time in Manitoba, you can ask for a new support letter to keep your work permit valid until the end of 2027. It's like getting an extension on your homework deadline so you have more time to finish your big project.
