What changed in the latest version

Before

English language rules were different for each immigration route. Some routes needed a B1 level. Others needed a B2 level. People usually had to show their English ability. They could do this with an approved test or another allowed way.

After

The updated guidance says that B2 is now the standard level. This is for Skilled Worker applications. It includes both getting permission to enter the UK and permission to stay. There are exceptions for some people. These are people whose earlier Skilled Worker permission had the old B1 rule. Scale Up applicants also need B2. They also have a similar exception for people whose earlier permission had the old B1 rule. The guidance also says that a degree taught in English can show English ability. This degree must be suitable. Degrees from outside the UK need an Ecctis assessment.
