Ireland Introduces Temporary Protection Transition Scheme for Beneficiaries of Temporary Protection

A new permission, the Temporary Protection Transition Scheme, will be provided on a Stamp 4 basis for beneficiaries of temporary protection in Ireland. This permission will be granted for an initial period of up to two years and is renewable for subsequent two-year periods. Time spent on this permission will count towards naturalisation. It includes the whole family unit who have been resident in Ireland under temporary protection. Eligibility criteria include a minimum one-year residency in Ireland as a temporary protection beneficiary, six months of employment or self-employment with a minimum yearly salary of €29,432, and not availing of state-supported accommodation (e.g., commercially provided, rapid build programme, or hosted accommodation supported by the Accommodation Recognition Payment) at the time of application. Holding this Stamp 4 permission means individuals cannot simultaneously hold Temporary Protection or any other immigration permission. The application process is intended to open in September 2026.
