What changed in the latest version
Before
-Eligible visitors could use Nigeria's old visa-on-arrival system. -Visa applications involved more physical steps or visits to an embassy. -Some foreign border-control systems could have problems checking Nigerian passports. -Passport services were moving online. But this was part of a larger change to digital processing.
After
-Eligible travellers can apply for a Nigerian e-Visa online. -Applicants upload their documents and pay the fee online. -Approved applicants get an e-Visa Approval Letter by email. This letter includes a Quick Response, or QR, code and a reference number. -The current NIS rules offer e-Visa options for many short-visit reasons. -Nigeria has made international electronic passport checks stronger through the ICAO Public Key Directory, or PKD. -Border systems in countries that use the ICAO PKD can now check Nigerian passports. They use the agreed authentication system.
The main change for travellers is that eligible visitors can now finish the visa process online before they travel. They do not need to rely on getting a visa when they arrive. For people who hold Nigerian passports, the passport changes are also important. Stronger international checks should make it easier for foreign border systems that take part to verify Nigerian passports.
