U.S. State Department Updates Travel Advisory for China and Macau SAR: Retains Level 2 for Mainland China and Hong Kong,

There is no new travel-advisory level or risk indicator. The 4 September update expands the explanation of existing risks, including: arbitrary enforcement of local laws; exit bans that may be imposed without a transparent legal process; risk of unjust arrest or detention; broad national security, counterespionage and data-security laws; restrictions affecting U.S. diplomatic personnel and emergency consular assistance; additional risks for some U.S. citizens of Chinese heritage or origin; risks connected to certain business disputes, U.S. government affiliations and government-funded programmes. For Macau SAR, the advisory retains Level 3 because of limited U.S. ability to provide emergency consular services and concerns about arbitrary enforcement of local laws. Hong Kong SAR remains at Level 2 because of concerns about arbitrary enforcement of local laws.
