Germany Introduces New Regulations to Accelerate Asylum Procedures and Simplify Safe Country Classification

The Federal Government in Germany has brought in new migration policy rules. They started in June 2026, though some parts began in February 2026. These changes aim to speed up asylum processes and make returns quicker. They do this by making it simpler to name safe countries of origin. They also remove the automatic appointment of a lawyer for certain types of deportation detention. A change to the Nationality Act is also now in force. It stops people from becoming German citizens for ten years if their previous citizenship was taken away because of fraud.
