Sweden Implements Stricter Expulsion Rules for Foreign Nationals Who Commit Crimes
The Riksdag, which is Sweden's parliament, has approved the Government's plan to make rules tougher for sending foreign nationals out of the country if they commit crimes. This set of laws starts on 1 September 2026. The aim is to remove more people. The law will allow removal for more types of crimes. It will also reduce protection for people who came to Sweden before they were 15 years old. Re-entry bans, which stop people from coming back to Sweden, will be longer. Some of these bans will last forever. Prosecutors must now ask for removal in certain criminal cases. Also, some crimes under the Aliens Act will have tougher penalties.
