Switzerland and Morocco strengthen cooperation on migration
What changed
Switzerland and Morocco agree to work more closely on migration, security, training, and money matters. On 22 May 2026, the State Secretary for Migration from Switzerland and his Moroccan counterpart agreed to a deal. This deal sets rules for returning people. It adds a faster way to find and return people who do not have permission to stay. This technical agreement makes cooperation stronger for Moroccan citizens in Switzerland who do not have permission to live there and must return home. This agreement follows earlier talks about working together on migration and returns.

A new rule also starts on 20 August 2026. New applicants for protection status S must follow their military duties in Ukraine. This rule applies to Ukrainian citizens who are old enough for military service, those on the reserve list, and those who joined the armed forces by choice. This new rule does not affect people who already have protection status S.
