Switzerland- Proposed Increase in Contribution to EU Integrated Border Management Fund
What changed
Switzerland plans to give more money to the Schengen states' Integrated Border Management Fund (BMVI-Fonds). Its planned payment will go up from 300 million Swiss Francs to about 323 million Swiss Francs by the end of 2027. This change happened after the European Union (EU) decided to add one billion Euros to the fund. In return for paying more, Switzerland will get up to 20 million Swiss Francs from the fund. Switzerland can use this money for things like putting the EU Migration and Asylum Pact into practice. The Swiss Federal Council sent a message about the extra money to Parliament on 5 June 2026. Parliament must approve these extra funds.

A new rule also starts on 20 August 2026. New applicants for protection status S must follow their military duties in Ukraine. This rule applies to Ukrainian citizens who are old enough for military service, those on the reserve list, and those who joined the armed forces by choice. This new rule does not affect people who already have protection status S.
