U.S. State Department Issues Level 1 Travel Advisory for Bhutan: Exercise Normal Precautions

The United States Department of State re-issued its Travel Advisory for Bhutan on 4 September 2026. It kept the 'Level 1' status, which means people should take normal precautions. This update confirms that Bhutan is considered a safe place to visit. However, it also highlights that medical facilities are limited and there are risks from natural disasters, such as floods and earthquakes. United States citizens travelling to Bhutan should enrol in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP). They should also get full travel insurance.
