USCIS Reintroduces Personal Investigations for Naturalization Eligibility Assessments

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has issued new policy guidance. This guidance restarts personal investigations for naturalisation eligibility checks. It takes effect immediately from 25 August 2026. This measure is in Volume 12 of the USCIS Policy Manual. It ends the previous general practice of not doing these investigations. This practice was allowed under section 335(a) of the Immigration and Nationality Act. The aim is to make the naturalisation process more trustworthy. It allows USCIS to do investigations if it chooses. It also helps USCIS check applicant information and documents more thoroughly during examinations.
