What changed

The Flemish government announced a new administrative fee of 180 euros. This fee is for combined permit applications in the Flemish Region. It applies to both new applications and renewals. It affects workers from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland. The fee covers the costs of processing work authorisation applications. It starts on 1 September 2026.

What changed

Belgium is introducing new rules for people who work across its borders. These new rules replace the old ones from 1981. The updated plan will affect people who work across Belgian borders. There are special temporary arrangements for those from Germany, France, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands. People from the United Kingdom will need a new D visa. These changes are expected to start in August 2026. This will happen after the rules are published in the Belgian Official Gazette.
