The Temporary Protected Status (TPS) designation for Lebanon, previously set to expire on 27 May 2026, has been automatically extended for six months until 27 November 2026. This extension occurred because the Secretary of Homeland Security was unable to determine whether Lebanon still met the conditions for TPS designation at least 60 days before the original expiration date, due to rapidly unfolding events in Lebanon in March 2026.
Who is affected by the latest change
- People currently receiving Temporary Protected Status (TPS) from Lebanon
- People who have an Employment Authorization Document (EAD) issued under Lebanon's TPS
- People who are citizens of Lebanon (or have no nationality but last lived in Lebanon). They must have lived in the United States without leaving since 16 October 2024. They must also have been physically present in the United States since 27 November 2024. They must meet other TPS rules to be eligible

Lebanon's Temporary Protected Status (TPS) was scheduled to end on 27 May 2026. If there was no extension, eligible people would have lost their TPS protection. They also would have lost their work permits after the legal time period ended.

The Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Lebanon is automatically extended for six months. This extension starts on 28 May 2026. It ends on 27 November 2026. This automatic extension applies to people who already have TPS. They must still meet the rules to be eligible. The work permits, called Employment Authorization Documents (EADs), issued under Lebanon's TPS are automatically extended. They are valid for this new period. People do not need to register for this automatic six-month extension.
