Extension of Lebanon Designation for Temporary Protected Status

What changed

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has automatically extended Lebanon's designation for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for six months. This decision was announced on 29 May 2026 and started on 28 May 2026. The TPS designation was due to end on 27 May 2026. It will now stay in effect until 27 November 2026. This automatic extension happened because the Secretary of Homeland Security could not review the country conditions in time. Fast-changing events in Lebanon in March 2026 made a timely review impossible.

Sweden Can Transfer Only Around 350 Quota Refugees in 2026 After Late Government Guidance

    What changed

The Swedish Migration Agency has assessed that only about 350 quota refugees will be transferred to Sweden during 2026. This figure represents a significant reduction from the established annual quota of 900 individuals. The revision stems from the government's delayed announcement regarding the specific nationalities and groups for this year's selection. Consequently, the agency faces practical limitations that prevent the transfer of the full annual refugee quota.
