Changes to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) Eligibility for Overseas-Trained Teachers in England

From 9 September 2026, the Department for Education in England is amending the eligibility criteria for its 'Apply for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in England' service. Teachers who trained in Ghana, India, or Nigeria will no longer be able to use this direct application route. This decision aims to uphold the integrity of QTS awards by ensuring professional standing can be verified and work history references are reliable.
