Netherlands: IND Reorganises Processing of Asylum Applications to Reduce Waiting Times
The Netherlands' Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND) has announced changes to how it processes asylum applications. This new approach deals with fresh asylum applications first. This aligns with the European Asylum and Migration Pact, starting on 12 June 2026. More than 54,000 applications were submitted before this date and are still waiting. For these, the IND will start a new method of sorting and grouping cases from 1 October 2026. The goal is to make a first decision for most of these within three years.
