Ontario Immigrant Nominee Programme (OINP) Redesigns Expression of Interest System and Stream Structure
What changed
On 26 June 2026, Ontario Regulation 422/17 under the Ontario Immigration Act, 2015 (OIA) changed. These changes are part of the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Programme (OINP) redesign. Eight previous OINP streams are now gone. A new stream called 'Ontario Workforce Priority' has started. The Expression of Interest (EOI) system is closed for new registrations under the old streams. All applications already submitted will be assessed using the old rules. The e-Filing Portal is expected to open again later this summer. This will allow people to apply under the new programme structure.

What changed
The UK Home Office has introduced new rules, starting on 9 October 2026. These rules allow people who have been formally recognised as victims of modern slavery, and who hold Skilled Worker visas, to change employers. This means they are no longer tied to their first sponsor and can do any lawful work for the remaining time on their visa. This change deals with a long-standing problem where victims risked losing their immigration status and income by leaving an exploitative employer. It offers better protection against destitution and helps them to rebuild their lives.
