e-Visa System Expanded and Passport Processing Reforms Updated

What changed

Nigeria has moved short-stay visa applications to a digital e-Visa system, replacing the previous visa-on-arrival process for eligible travellers. The e-Visa system allows applicants to apply online, upload documents and receive an e-Visa Approval Letter by email. The current Nigeria Immigration Service framework lists e-Visas for short visits including tourism, business, conferences, job interviews, study tours and temporary work permits. Short-stay e-Visas generally cover stays of up to 90 days, depending on the visa class. Nigeria has also continued to modernise passport processing. Its current passport system supports online applications and renewals, and in July 2026 Nigeria completed the integration of its passport authentication certificates into the ICAO Public Key Directory, improving international verification of Nigerian passports.
