Finland Introduces New Civic Knowledge Requirement and Citizenship Test for Naturalisation
Finland's Citizenship Act 2027 will introduce a new rule about civic knowledge for people applying for Finnish citizenship. This change starts on 1 January 2027. It means that applicants aged 18 to 64 must show they understand Finnish society, its main ideas, history, and culture. This rule will apply to citizenship applications sent to the Finnish Immigration Service (Migri) on or after 1 March 2027. The new citizenship test will be the main way to meet this requirement.
