UK Global Talent Visa: Updated List of Prestigious Prizes Exempting Endorsement

The UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) list of approved research organisations for the Global Talent visa has been updated. This update includes changes to organisation names and the addition of at least one new body. The full list specifies that UKRI accepts these UK organisations as being able to employ or host an applicant who holds, or provides critical contributions to work supported by, an award or grant from an endorsed funder. However, appearing on the approved-organisation list does not by itself grant a person a Global Talent visa. GOV.UK states that the applicant must also hold a research grant or award from an approved endorsed funder and must meet the requirements of the relevant Global Talent route.

UK Immigration Rules Part 4: Work Experience Categories Deleted

All specific provisions and paragraphs related to 'au pair' placements, 'working holidaymakers', 'seasonal agricultural workers', 'teachers or language assistants under an approved exchange scheme', and associated dependant categories (spouses, civil partners, and children) within Immigration Rules part 4 have been deleted. This includes paragraphs 98, 99, 100, 122, 123, 124, 125, 126, and 127, as well as unnumbered sub-categories. The current rules instead deal with comparable forms of temporary mobility through modern immigration routes elsewhere in the Rules. For example, the Youth Mobility Scheme is now the UK's dedicated route for eligible young people from participating countries and territories who want to live and work temporarily in the UK. The Government Authorised Exchange route provides another mechanism for eligible people coming to the UK for approved work-experience programmes, internships, training and exchanges.

UK Immigration Rules Appendix Skilled Occupations: Updated Eligible Occupations and Going Rates

The Immigration Rules Appendix Skilled Occupations defines eligible SOC 2020 occupation codes and associated going rates for the Skilled Worker (SW), Global Business Mobility (GBM), and Scale-up (SCU) routes. It specifies salary thresholds based on median Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings (ASHE) data and an hourly minimum of Β£17.13. Going rates are calculated per year based on a 37.5-hour working week and must be pro-rated for other working patterns. For Skilled Worker settlement applications, only the full 'going rate' column applies; the reduced rates (70%, 80%, 90%) do not.

UK Immigration Rules Appendix E Updated: Outdated Tier 1 (Entrepreneur) Dependant Provisions Removed

The Home Office has removed outdated provisions from Appendix E that related to the former Tier 1 (Entrepreneur) dependant framework. The current Appendix is now narrowly defined. GOV.UK states: β€œAppendix E applies only to applications as a dependent partner or dependent child of a Tier 1 (Entrepreneur) Migrant.”

UK Immigration Rules Appendix International Armed Forces and International Civilian Employees Updated

The updated rules make the position explicit. The route now clearly states that a partner or child of an international armed forces member who is exempt from immigration control can apply under this Appendix where: the service member is exempt from immigration control under the relevant legislation; the dependant is applying for entry clearance or permission to stay; and the dependant is listed as a dependant on the sponsor's military movement orders or equivalent civilian posting letter. The Home Office's caseworker guidance gives the practical clarification even more directly: dependants of exempt international armed forces personnel are not automatically eligible to accompany them and must apply for entry clearance. The distinction is important The service member may be exempt from immigration control. The dependant is not automatically exempt. The dependant must instead satisfy the relevant requirements under the International Armed Forces and International Civilian Employees route.

UK Immigration Rules Appendix A: Legacy Tier 1 Attributes Deleted

The Immigration Rules Appendix A now focuses solely on attributes for Tier 1 (Entrepreneur) Migrants, outlining that applicants must score 75 points for attributes. It specifies available points in Table 4 for initial applications (from Tier 1 Graduate Entrepreneur or Start-up Migrant pathways), Table 5 for extension applications, and Table 6 for indefinite leave to remain applications. It details conditions for money available (e.g., minimum Β£50,000, held in regulated financial institutions, disposable in the UK, cash only, UK business requirement), and specific documentation for proving funds, including accountant and bank statement requirements. All sections related to Tier 1 (Exceptional Talent) Migrants and Tier 1 (General) Migrants, including their respective tables and numerous associated paragraphs (1-34, and some within 39-41), have been deleted.

UK Legacy Tier 1 (Entrepreneur) and Tier 1 (Investor) Routes Retained for Existing Migrants

The 3 August 2026 update does not reopen either route and does not newly close them. Instead, the current Part 6A continues to preserve the relevant legacy provisions for Tier 1 Entrepreneur and Investor migrants. For Tier 1 (Entrepreneur) migrants, Appendix A continues to require 75 points for attributes. The rules retain separate provisions for qualifying applications for entry clearance, permission to stay and indefinite leave to remain, including different requirements depending on the applicant's previous immigration status. For Tier 1 (Investor) migrants, Appendix A also continues to require 75 points for attributes. The available points and evidence requirements depend on the applicant's previous Tier 1 Investor status and, importantly, the historical version of the rules under which their original permission was granted. The current Appendix Continuous Residence also specifically identifies Part 6A for Tier 1 Entrepreneur and Tier 1 Investor settlement applications. This confirms that the legacy routes remain relevant for settlement purposes even though they are closed to new entrants.

UK Introduces Transitional Arrangements for Senior or Specialist Worker Skill Level Requirements

What changed

The UK Immigration Rules for the Global Business Mobility – Senior or Specialist Worker visa route have changed. New transitional arrangements have been added. These arrangements allow some people to be sponsored for jobs in specific occupation codes. These codes are listed in Table 2b of Appendix Skilled Occupations. To qualify, people must have received permission to stay under the rules that were in place before 4 April 2024. They must also have kept their permission to stay without interruption. This arrangement lasts until 3 April 2030. This change helps certain workers who met different skill level rules in the past to move to the new rules over time.
